CIBS is a think and action tank.

The Coalition for the Improvement of Bedford-Stuyvesant is a membership organization dedicated to working towards greater cooperation of local organizations to positively impacting the Bedford-Stuyvesant community. Our primary goals focus on maintaining and enhancing an equitable, healthy and sustainable community that produces economic and social betterment for the indigenous people of our community.

CIBS is a recognized coalition and champion for policies that positively impact the Bedford Stuyvesant community. CIBS was not designed to have a narrow mission, but rather to be a think and action tank for transformative change. Since inception, CIBS has been a laboratory or rather incubator for social change and a vehicle to allow community-based organizations to partner versus “compete” and share the goal of amplifying collective impact in Bedford-Stuyvesant. The agility and culture of CIBS has allowed the organization to take on a wide array of policy issues and opportunities confronting Bed-Stuy in a highly responsive, yet in a thoughtful and responsible way.

Our Approach: Collective Impact

CIBS facilitates programming in five Focus Areas:  Savings and Asset-Building, Workforce Development, Business Vitality, Housing & Physical Development, and Human and Social Services. Member organizations with common service portfolios participate on one or more networks to collaborate around shared service objectives and issues, planning, research, outreach, and grant development.  New partners are strongly encouraged to participate in implementation of programs and events.

Adinkra are visual symbols, originally created by the Akan, that represent concepts or aphorisms. The symbols have a decorative function but also represent objects that encapsulate evocative messages that convey traditional wisdom, aspects of life or the environment.
