Board

The primary function of the Executive Committee is to sustain and continuously strengthen the collaborative framework of CIBS. The involvement of the Executive Committee is essential to the operation, growth and on-going synergies within CIBS’ 5 programming networks. The programming networks were selected based on the expressed community planning priorities of the residents, organizations and businesses of Bedford-Stuyvesant. The objective of each Network, chaired by an Executive Director of a CIBS member organization, is to collaborate around shared service objectives and issues, planning, research, outreach and grant development. This management structure was selected so that the Coalition could be positioned to respond efficiently and effectively to community issues, funding opportunities and partnership requests from both the public and private sectors. The progress and growth of CIBS is a direct result of the sustained engagement of the leaders of the Coalition’s member organizations.   In aggregate, CIBS members represent a lifeline for much of the Bedford-Stuyvesant community, serving thousands of individuals and families annually with critical support.

The Executive Committee is committed to producing an unprecedented model for meeting the needs of residents from birth to retirement. The leadership of CIBS places special emphasis on advocating for positive change on behalf of the most vulnerable residents and places in Bedford-Stuyvesant. CIBS devotes considerable resources to measure programming efficacy and impact on constituents, places and systems. Some of the major hallmarks of CIBS collaborative work has been foreclosure prevention and mitigation, tax lien assistance and the creation of the first Aging Improvement District outside of the borough of Manhattan. Additional achievements include the development of 6,000 units of affordable housing, 476,000 square feet of commercial space, plus an additional 1,000 units of housing and 15,000 square free of commercial space in the pipeline.
