  • Mental health referrals;
  • Quality education and childcare referrals;
  • Healthy lifestyle workshop programming; and
  • Safe environments
A family or person’s quality of life is dependent on their health, well-being and self-sufficiency. The Social Services Network continues to provide quality services to assist the residents of Bedford-Stuyvesant to build a better future.

Safeguarding Families

Ms. W is thirty seven and supports her three children ages 7, 14 and 18. When Ms. W first reached Black Vets for Social Justice (BVSJ), she and her children were scared for their lives as a result of domestic violence. BVSJ was able to provide her with comprehensive support services such as access to food pantries, temporary metrocards as well as referrals to a court escort and family counseling while she pursed the conviction of her perpetrator. He was ultimately sentenced to fifteen years in prison. BVSJ was also there to help kick start her new life. In 10 short months with help from BVSJ, Ms. W was able to secure full time employment, relocate her family to an apartment and enroll in Long Island University. She has successfully completed her first semester. She hopes to obtain her Bachelors degree in accounting.
